JOHN B. HAMLIN
With over two decades of government experience, John B. Hamlin is a recognized and established leader in executive agency and legislative lobbying. He founded his own firm, J.B. Hamlin & Company Inc., in 1997, and today he directs the company’s highly successful approach to lobbying and advocating in Ohio government on behalf of his diverse clients.
John’s experience as a liaison with government has rendered him expert in working with the Governor’s Office, Ohio’s 15 executive agencies, and statewide offices including that of the Attorney General, Treasurer, Auditor and Secretary of State. These interactions put the J.B. Hamlin Company in an ideal position to represent businesses large and small when seeking to defray business costs by accessing grants, tax credits and low interest financing.
John’s advanced skills in relationship development and coalition building have fueled positive results in federal, state and legislative campaign efforts. When combined with his deep knowledge of prominent state agencies, John’s focus on business growth strategies creates access within organizations public and private, including the Development Services Agency and JobsOhio. He concentrates his efforts on Ohio’s oil and gas industry, physical and virtual charter schools, and any other business with a strong will to start or continue calling Ohio home.
Prior to establishing his firm, John worked with the Ohio Department of Insurance for seven years, serving in the capacity of Deputy Insurance Warden for the last four years of his tenure. His responsibilities included ensuring the office of Investigative Services compliance with federal, state and local laws and formulating and overseeing agency policy on agent licensure, continuing education programs for licensed agents, and all regulatory enforcement guidelines regarding the practice of insurance in Ohio.
John previously served on the executive staff of former Ohio Governor and Senator George V. Voinovich. He was responsible for all gubernatorial advance work, including the logistics of appearances, preparation of briefing materials and follow-ups for all official travel.
In addition to his array of practical government experience, John has a distinguished record of service on a number of presidential campaigns. This record includes service as a Professional Volunteer for the White House Office of Advance for current and past administrations, including working domestically and internationally on presidential advance teams.
John is the current president of the board of trustees of the Ohio Business Week Foundation, a former board member of the Central Ohio Board of the International Dyslexia Association (COBIDA), and a former board president of the Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life Explorer Program.
John was born in Akron, Ohio, and attended St. Vincent St. Mary’s high school, University of Akron, and Ohio Dominican University. A resident of Eastmoor in Columbus, John enjoys clay and sport shooting and reading current non-fiction, biographies and histories. When not advocating on behalf of his clients John can most likely be found boating on one of Ohio’s many lakes during warmer months.
JILLIAN HANES
Jillian R. Hanes serves as Director of Government Relations at JB Hamlin & Co.
She is a graduate of The Ohio State University’s class of 2012, where she received a Bachelor of Human Ecology, with a focus in Consumer and Financial Services and a minor in Business Administration.
In her capacity as Director of Government Relations, Jillian oversees client communications, short and long term planning, keeping stakeholders current on legislative schedules and executive agency developments. Her focus on effective communication creates opportunities to enhance client relationships by developing a more nuanced understanding of political and governmental processes.
In addition to Government Relations, Jillian has experience in both State-wide and National campaigns. Jillian has served as an advance lead on multiple State-wide and Presidential campaigns, worked as an Assistant Financial Director for political campaign fundraising, and served as Ballot Access Manager for a Presidential candidate.
Jillian is passionate about physical fitness and healthy living. Born and raised in Lima, Jillian enjoyed an active upbringing with family and friends. While attending Ohio State, she worked as a personal trainer at the university sports center, advising students, faculty and athletes on fitness and diet.
