Age Old Economic Debate Surrounding Ethanol

EEXS_biocarburantessssAs a proud Ohioan, I have an acute awareness surrounding the importance of farming in our state. As a bread basket to the nation, Ohio grows and produces myriad food products, soy and corn being very significant to our state’s GDP.

The dialog in our nation’s capitol surrounding how to handle the ethanol subsidy going forward is compelling as an Ohioan, but also from an objective economic perspective, as it is a debate that has raged since the beginnings of the study of economy: to subsidize or not to subsidize?

Certainly there will be strong and good cases made for each side. However, we can be sure that with the subsidy having been in place for so long, it will create significant economic friction if it’s suddenly taken away.

How would the ethanol debate affect you?
